Dentist recommendations?
Main Post:
I had a dental exam 6 months ago and had no cavities/problems, but I recently went to a new dentist who said that I had 5 new cavities ($500+). I doubt my teeth have changed that much. They were also really pushy with trying to upsell me stuff, so I don’t trust them at all. I’m tired of dentists removing enamel, filling my teeth, only to have to do it all over again in a few years until I have no more tooth left.
I was thinking UCSF, but do you have any recommendations for a trustworthy dentist that only suggests work that is absolutely required? I’m open to anyone in SF or as far south as Burlingame!
Top Comment: Anyone at Embarcadero Dentistry. Top notch dentist office.

Looking for a recommendations on a trustworthy dentist in SF

Any suggestions for a good dentist in San Francsico? One who will not shame me for being unable to afford going to a dentist for several years or who will try to scam me for unnecessary services. I hate who I went to last. I’m very wary about going back to a dentist so really looking for someone patient and trust worthy!

I was in your situation 6-7 years ago when I started seeing Dr Matthew Keyser. Great guy. He’s since added a couple of new dentists to his practice since Covid ended. They’ve always been kind and understanding about my financial situation (I’m a cash patient) and explained the necessity for any procedures.
His office is at 115 Sansome st, SF.

Top Comment: Better Living Through Dentistry, near 9th and Irving. Dr. Lee and Dr. Joy are phenomenal, and their whole practice is very gentle and kind, especially if you mention that you’re dealing with some anxiety.
Anybody have a dentist they trust?

Looking for a new dentist, anywhere in SF or surrounding areas, I’m willing to drive for somebody amazing! Hopefully one I can go to for a long time. If you have a good dentist that you have been going to for many years, skilled and does good quality work, explains things well, keeps up to date, and is super trustworthy, tell me about them!
I've asked around in my friend group, and most people seem to just bounce around dentists and "i had a cleaning and they were super friendly' which doesn't help. Im looking someone I can TRUST to have my best interests in mind and trust when stuff inevitable goes sideways with my problematic teeth.
Top Comment: My boyfriend has an insane dentist phobia. Dr. Joel McFaul in Pacific Heights is who he found for a 2nd opinion one time, and now is his ride or die. He explains everything and is trustworthy and chill. Its him and his wife who run the place. Give em a call and see if they’ll take your insurance! :)
Please recommend me a dentist.

I moved here at the beginning of the year, got an appointment at Valencia dental after not having a cleaning in ~1 year but having routine care for the previous 29 years of my life. Besides the fact that I found Dr. Uribe to be quite condescending, out of nowhere I’m recommended 10+ fillings. Thankfully I have a close friend who is a dentist and when I visited him he felt there was one cavity that merited filling, which he did. Upon returning for my next follow-up I had an unpleasant, borderline contentious conversation with a completely different dentist at the practice regarding my preference for a conservative approach. Of note, this second dentist did not even agree with aspects of Uribe’s plan of care.
Tl;Dr I’d appreciate someone recommending me a dentist who is not drill happy and prefers a wait and watch approach. Thanks!
Top Comment: Dr Paul Ryan Lake. I told him about my dental anxiety and he was SO nice. He's also willing to prescribe a Valium for your appt which really helped me.

Best no frills dentist in SF?

I’m looking for a dentist in San Francisco that I can trust won’t try to upsell me on procedures every visit.
My dentist experiences in the past have been more elegant, polished clinics but I’m not convinced the dentist isn’t trying to scam me. Telling me I have cavities when I don’t, etc. what I want is like an older dentist who has textbooks lying around (not actually but you catch my drift), has been practicing for decades & knows their shit.
Top Comment: Dr. Montalvo on 14th near the Castro is amazing. Sometimes the hygienists try to sell you on mouth guards but nothing pushy or annoying. I just usually say yeah I’m not doing that but thanks. Highly recommend, great guy with a solid practice.

need to see a dentist that does good work in a clean and high tech office.
i’ve been to jen wong, she’s good but they’re being weird and saying they can’t find my insurance information (delta).
i went to pac heights dental studio and have nothing nice to say. they were disorganized and actually caused more problems than they fixed.
and i went to sunset dental building and it was not my vibe.
the office can be in any neighborhood, i just need to see someone who is actually good and has a nice facility
Top Comment: Not gonna subject my wonderful dentist to this.
